Halloween Parade
Registration: October 23rd, 2011 at Noon
Event Date: October 23rd, 2011 at 1:00 pm
Eligibility: All N. Plainfield Youth (parents are welcome to dress-up and accompany their child). However,
only children are eligible for costume prizes.
Description: Join the annual tradition of our town's Halloween parade the Sunday before Halloween.
Participants should meet in the Stony Brook School parking lot at 12:00. Parade will begin at 1 pm and
commence at the N.P.H.S. Track (behind the school). Join us for fall festivities, costume judging and
refreshments. In case of inclement weather, everyone will meet in the N.P.H.S. Gymnasium on Wilson Ave.
Costume Categories: Most Original (Group), Most Original (Individual), Cutest (Individual), Scariest
(Individual), Funniest (Individual), Prettiest (Individual), and Best Super Hero (Individual.

Community Holiday Event: Tree Lighting and Santa Comes To Town
Event Date: Sunday, 12-4-11 at 4:00 pm at Vermeule
Description: Come celebrate two Annual North Plainfield traditions together - Recreation's Holiday Tree
Lighting and the Borough's Santa Comes to Town. Everyone is invited to join us at Vermeule for Santa's
arrival at 4 pm, holiday music, balloon caricatures, hot chocolate, cookies and other refreshments, and more!
Mayor Giordano will celebrate the holiday season by lighting the tree.

The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular and NYC Holiday Shopping Bus Trip
Event Date: Sunday, December 18th, 2011
Description: The bus will leave Vermeule and take you to New York City for holiday shopping, a chance to
meet on of the Rockettes, a ticket to the Christmas Spectacular show at Radio City Music Hall, and
transportation back to Vermeule.
Cost: $80/per person includes transportation and ticket to show

Fishing Derby
Registration Dates: Register at the event
Event Date: April 28th, 2012 from 8:30 - 11:30 am at Green Acres Park
(Note: Tball will start at 1pm on this date)
Eligibility: North Plainfield residents in 1st - 8th grades
Description: This has been a N. Plainfield tradition for the last 40+ years. Children win prizes for the most fish
caught, largest fish caught, etc. The annual spring fishing derby takes place at Green Acres Park.
Donations of prizes to continue this tradition are greatly appreciated.

Easter Egg Hunt at Vermeule
Event Date: March 31st, 2012 at 2 pm at Vermeule, Rain Date: April 1st
Description: Meet the Easter Bunny and hunt for easter candy (remember to bring your camera and a
basket to carry your eggs). Easter Egg Hunt Flyer to come

Track & Field Meet
Registration: Friday, April 20th, 2012 at Vermeule, 6:00-8:00 pm
Event Date: Saturday, May 5th, 2012 from 9 am - Noon (Location TBD)

Eligibility: Children in 1st-8th grades (6-14 yrs. old) from North Plainfield and neighboring towns are invited to
register for this NOVICE Track & Field Meet.
Description: This is a one-day event held in the morning. Children ages 6 through 14 can participate in age
appropriate activities which include 50 M, 100 M, 400 M, and 800 M Runs, 4 x 100 Mile Relay, Long Jump,
and Softball Throw. Registration required before start of events.
Athletes placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in an event will receive an award.
Cost: $5 Pre-Registration. $10 on the day of the event at the Track

2011 Summer Camps
North Plainfield Parks & Recreation will be offering 3 types of programs during Summer 2011 for its
residents. The Summer Camp will be a full day (9am-3pm) program which will be open rain or shine, and
offer a before and after care option for an additional cost.
NP Recreation is also offering the Playgrounds Camp. See details of both camps below.

Summer Camp
Description: The Recreation Commission sponsors an indoor/outdoor summer program. Campers can
sign-up for weekly field trips and will be placed in a camp-site based on their age with age-appropriate
activities. This camp will be at the following locations in 2011 (sites subject to change):
Vermeule - Full Day (9 am - 3 pm), Rain or Shine for K-4th grades
Middle school - Full Day (9 am - 3 pm), Rain or Shine for 5th-8th grades
There are a variety of activities including arts and crafts, board games, indoor and outdoor sports,
playground equipment. There will be weekly themes and weekly field trips at an extra cost.
New This Year! We are now offering before care and after care starting at 8am and ending at 6pm.
Season: 7 weeks starting June 27 through August 12th (no camp on July 4th due to Independence Day)
Cost: $400 plus $25 Registration fee

Playgrounds
Description: The Recreation Commission sponsors an outdoor summer playgrounds program that will be at
East End School. This program is available to North Plainfield residents in grades Kindergarten-8th. This
playground camp will have limited activities and will be 100% outdoors.
East End school - Half Day (9 am - Noon), Weather Permitting and limited activities
Season: 7 weeks starting June 27 through August 12th (no camp on July 4th due to Independence Day)
Cost: $75 / child
