Dennis Passe

With tremendous sorrow, The North Plainfield Recreation Department announces the loss of Dennis Passe, our recreation director, on Thursday, September 24, 2020.  He is our leader, our mentor, our friend, our family.

As one of our Recreation Committee members wrote in an earlier post, and we couldn’t have said it better:   Every once in awhile you come across someone who brings to life some overused clichés….”He wore his heart on his sleeve”, “He was all about the kids”, “ He put others before himself ”,…..Dennis was all of that and much more.

Dennis was driven by his passion for his role in bringing sports and activities into the lives of kids and the community. His dedication, energy, and commitment to this department and to the youth, adults, and seniors of this community will be sustained in his legacy.  His mantra was “Listen, if it’s good for the community and we can afford it, let’s do it.”

When you are driving or walking around North Plainfield, please look for his legacy….it is everywhere!   You will see his legacy in the bright recreation uniforms on so many of our kids, in the holiday lights at Vermeule in December, in the homes decorated for the Holiday House Decorating Contest, in the Fourth of July fireworks and parade, in the Halloween Parade, in the Summer Concerts, in the Fishing Derby,  in the Senior Picnic, in the Summer Camp Program, in the Outdoor Fitness equipment, in the Playground and Parks equipment, In the Drive-in Movie night, in the Hometown Heroes banners celebrating our veterans.  His legacy can be seen in all of our sports programs – (Soccer, Flag Football, Cheerleading, Archery, Basketball, T-ball, Softball, Baseball, Volleyball, Yoga, Zumba, Adult Softball, Travel Baseball and Softball ), as well as in athletic field renovations across the town, and in the Harlem Wizards event that brought this community together in February.   Dennis was the energy behind all of these ideas, events, and activities. As you see or experience these things, please, thank him in your heart for his tireless efforts.   And, please thank his family for sharing him so generously with the town of North Plainfield.

We will miss you Dennis.
